ENGLISH CLASSES FOR NATIVE 5-YEAR-OLD CHILDREN

Fun Phonics.2

Phonics instruction aims to help children learn that letters represent the sounds of spoken language

Building on Phase 2 Knowledge

Phonics instruction aims to help children learn that letters represent the sounds of spoken language — and that there is an organized, logical, and predictable relationship between written letters and spoken sounds. Learning that there are predictable relationships between sounds and letters allows children to apply these relationships to both familiar and unfamiliar words, and to begin to read with fluency. When children understand sound–letter correspondence, they can sound out and read (decode) new words. In essence phonics is the step up to word recognition. Automatic reading of all words – decodable and tricky – is the ultimate goal.

What teaching method is used to teach English

to 5-year-olds?

Developing Reading and Spelling Skills

At entry level, students are expected to be able to recognise the 20 letters introduced in Fun Phonics 1 and associate them with the corresponding sounds (Sets 1-5) as well as some high-frequency words (the, to, go, no). They build up on their phase 2 knowledge and are eased into phase three letter combinations. Throughout the year, students get exposed to another 25 graphemes, most of them comprising two letters.

Enhancing Phonics Fluency

Children also continue to practise CVC blending and segmentation in this phase and will apply their knowledge of blending and segmenting to reading and spelling simple two-syllable words and captions. They will learn letter names during this phase, learn to read some more tricky words and also begin to learn to spell some of these words. Weekly spelling tests and reading at home is particularly important for students in this level as they lay the foundations for literacy work.

What are the testimonials from other parents?

Gaëlle D.

It was a fantastic year for our daughter.
She was not in the right group level at the beginning of the year, but the school changed her class rapidly.
She has learnt so much ! I’m just impressed by what her teacher has done with the children.
Every week was fun with a lot of projects, songs… Hélène gave so much to them. It was just fabulous to hear every week : “Mum, Wednesday is my favorite day of the week”.

Barbara D.
Very professional teacher (Kaltrina).
Sophia B.
Je suis satisfaite des compétences acquises par mes enfants dans cette école. L’enseignement est motivant et bienveillant, le suivi individualisé.
Simone C.

I love this school. My son is attending the playtime every Wednesday, it is a group of max 10 children.
The teacher prepares loads of different activities and she shares them in Google Drive, so the parents are informed and they can also reproduce the same songs they played at school when they are at home.
My son also attends weekly camps each season, full of different activities indoor and outdoor.
